Advanced 3D Laser Processing Services

We offer a variety of 5-Axis Laser Systems utilizing Co2, High Peak Power YAG and Pulsed IPG Fiber Lasers up to 20,000 Watts for Cutting, Drilling and Welding processes for 3D parts. These services include the following:

Laser Drilling

At Northern Lights Lasers, we offer several methods of laser drilling to create small, unusually shaped and/or precisely tapered holes over virtually any 3D surface. The type of drilling we use depends on the material type and effect that you require:

Fine-Hole Drilling: Our fine-hole drilling is  the most effective way to get the smallest holes drilled with precision and uniformity in any material.

  • Percussion Drilling: Percussion drilling is the use of repetitive power laser pulses in order to break through material and create holes that the required average diameter is more about Air-Flow than Size.
  • Effusion Hole Drilling: This type of drilling is also known as “Impingement Hole Drilling” or “Shallow Angled Hole Drilling” allows us to put holes on an angle from the surface. (Typically less than 20 Degrees.)
  • Fire-on-the-Fly Laser Drilling: This type of drilling involves keeping your part spinning in continuous motion while our high-precision Laser pulses. This is a highly productive method for producing hole clusters.
Laser Cutting & Trimming
The Northern Lights Laser Cutting process is a multi-dimensional method that allows us to cut off axis to the surface. It also allows us to cut non-perpendicular objects, such as beveled edges.

Laser Welding
Our fine micro-welding process uses Laser technology to join metal. Our welding process is advanced enough to be able to accommodate everything from microscopic medical parts to the door thresholds on a Boeing 747.

Tube Cutting
Laser cutting makes tubes adaptable to most any fit-up requirement. By cutting copes and angles with speed and precision, we can modify your tubes to fit to other components.

Inert Gas Cutting
Some materials, such as titanium, can only be cut with gases such as Argon, Helium or Nitrogen. During the inert gas cutting process, our precision laser beam acts as the heat source and is combined with a high-pressure jet of inert gas, enabling these materials to be cut quickly and accurately without Oxidation, (Weld ready).

Etching
Through the use of our CNC controlled 5-Axis Laser systems we can etch or “label” your parts on most any surface or contour. The precision use of these lasers allows us to permanently and durably etch almost any material at even the smallest increments – and to do it at high speed.

Prototyping
Northern Lights Laser is equipped to create and modify prototypes at a low cost to you. Our lasers make it simple to implement engineering changes to your models such as hole sizes, giving you the flexibility to modify your product as needed without the high cost of re-tooling.

Rotary and Cylindrical Part Production
By integrating rotary tables on all of our high-powered Laser Workcenters, we are able to gain a sixth or seventh axis and create parts that are cylindrical.

Flow Testing
By having internal flow testing capabilities, we are able utilize air flow, even at an angle, to measure the flow rate of the gas that’s going through the part. This is essential for parts like Turbines or disks that function to keep engines cool or to ensure fuel atomization.

Ultrasonic Part Cleaning
Our ultrasonic part cleaning process combines ultrasound waves with the appropriate cleaning solvent for your material, effectively cleaning intricately shaped parts.

Part Washing
For parts not suited to ultrasonic cleaning, we use a washing process that ensures your part is clean and ready to use.

Full Inspection
Each lot of parts that we process is fully inspected to each Customers’ specifications.
